Labour supporters brave downpour for peaceful rally at Queen’s Park
Thousands of organized labour supporters endured torrential rain during a peaceful rally on the lawns of Queen's Park in downtown Toronto as international leaders made their way to G20 Summit meetings Saturday.
When a unrelated splinter group - clad in black and wearing bandanas and belaclavas - broke off from the March, the peaceful rally began to turn violent, resulting in a reign of property damage, as they did battle in the street with riot police. Four police cars were torched and retail store windows and doors were smashed. A number of protesters were arrested in the ensuing melee.
