Construction to begin on Glenway Gate seniors’ housing project in Calgary
CALGARY
Federal and Alberta government funding is supporting a $1.5-million joint investment for seniors’ housing by the Trinity Place Foundation.
Construction is set to begin on Glenway Gate, a 42-unit market and affordable housing project for seniors, situated in the community of Glamorgan in Calgary.
Made up of a combination of one- and two-bedroom units, including 12 barrier-free suites, these rental apartments will help address an identified need for seniors’ housing in Calgary.
The federal and provincial governments are contributing equally to an overall investment of $190 million, over two years, under the amended Canada-Alberta Affordable Housing Program Agreement, which includes funding under Canada’s Economic Action Plan.
“We are thrilled to be starting construction on Glenway Gate,” said Lawrence Braul, CEO of Trinity Place Foundation.
“This is a superb location for a seniors development with great access to public transit, shopping, banking, and all the amenities of a well-established community.”
The Alberta government is on track to reach its goal to create 11,000 affordable housing units by 2012 with more than 8,700 units being supported during the first three years of the provincial affordable housing initiative.
