Heavy rains wash away bridges to Nova Scotia fishing village

Nova Scotia’s Emergency Management Office says work is expected to begin today to re-establish a land link to the stranded community of Meat Cove.

Officials say construction of a temporary bridge will get underway once the parts arrive.

Heavy rains on the weekend washed away bridges leading to the remote Cape Breton fishing village, leaving up to 35 residents and a number of campers with no way out by land.

The province says 19 tourists left by boat on Monday and all have since been taken to Sydney, N.S.
