Man dies working on rock crusher in Newfoundland

A 45-year-old Newfoundland man is dead after being pulled into a rock crusher at a gravel pit in the Come by Chance area.

The RCMP said Derrick Lawrence of Mose Ambrose was performing routine maintenance on the machine Monday when he got caught up in moving parts and was drawn in.

Workers tried to resuscitate Lawrence but he was pronounced dead at hospital in Clarenville.

Provincial safety officials and police are continuing to investigate.
