Glenbarra announces solar power generation contracts

Glenbarra Energy Management Corp. announced Wednesday it is the general contractor for nearly 800 solar energy generating plants in southern Ontario.

Mississauga, Ont.-based GEMCO said it is currently installing up to 800 ground mounted microFIT Photovoltaic solar systems and has acquired the associated land lease rights.

GEMCO will provide the system design, installation and long term maintenance for the projects, which are intended to generate electricity for the Ontario Power Authority's Feed in Tariff (FIT) program, which provides fixed rates for companies, residents and institutions generating electricity for the grid using wind or solar power.

The firm does most of the construction and contracts some work to third-party mechanical and electrical contractors.

It has built solar systems for several Toronto area institutions, including the University of Toronto and the Hospital for Sick Children.
