North Bay, Ontario electrical utility working on biogas generation facility

North Bay Hydro Distribution Ltd. has published a notice of its proposal to build a biogas facility at a landfill site in northern Ontario.

The power utility announced Friday it posted the notice with the Government of Ontario environmental registry, in accordance with the Environmental Protection Act.

The distributor intends to build a landfill gas (LFG) fuelled reciprocating engine with a total generating capacity of 1.6 MW at the Merrick Landfill Site in the District of Nipissing.

A report previously published by Conestoga-Rovers & Associates on behalf of North Bay Hydro identified the key components of the project and infrastructure associated with the project.

The associated infrastructure required includes: perimeter chain link fence and a vehicle gate; gravel surfaced compound; gravel surfaced access driveway for vehicles; above ground stainless steel LFG piping; LFG analyzer; and LFG flow meter.

The Conestoga-Rovers & Associates project description report for the renewable energy approval, LFG utilization by electricity production, Merrick Landfill Site, is available online in PDF format.
