Cottage, road development proposed near Placentia, Newfoundland

The Newfoundland and Labrador department of environment and conservation announced the registration of a proposal to develop 40 cottage lots and associated road construction near Beaver Pond in the town of Placentia.

The Beaver Pond Cottage Development would be on a 206-hectare site about four kilometres south of the intersection of Argentia Access Road and Long Hill Road within the municipal planning area of the Town of Placentia, inland and southeast of the main built-up area.

Placentia, which includes the former municipalities of Jerseyside, Freshwater and Dunville, is on the Avalon Peninsula south of the former Argentia U.S. naval station and about 100 kilometres southwest of St. John’s.

The undertaking to develop the cottage lots was registered with the province July 4 in accordance with Part 10 Environmental Assessment of the Environmental Protection Act.

The deadline for public comments is August 12 and the deadline for a decision by the Minister of Environment and Conservation is Aug. 18.
