Toronto contractor charged in $450,000 fraud
Vaughan, Ont.
A Toronto contractor is charged in what York Regional Police call a “historical” fraud of over $450,000.
Between April 2005 and June 2007, more than $450,000 was obtained by fraud by a sub-contractor submitting altered invoices.
Last week, Paolo Mior, 48, turned himself into police, and was charged with fraud over $5,000. He appears at Newmarket court Oct. 6.
“It is a lot of money and quite often with these types of fraud they go unnoticed,” said Constable Rebecca Boyd with the York Regional Police. “It is important for people to be diligent in checking their receipts and making sure they get proper estimates from valid contractors.”
