Proposed Newfoundland pipefitter training facility to get environmental assessment

The Newfoundland and Labrador Ministry of Environment and Conservation announced Monday that Maher Group of Companies Inc. has registered a proposal to build a training facility in Argentia Industrial Park.

The facility, if approved, would be used to train pipefitters in joining fiberglass reinforced polymer pipe sections using fiberglass and resins. It would operate during the construction phase of Vale SA’s Long Harbour Processing Plant, which is part of the Voisey’s Bay development. The Long Harbour plant is scheduled for completion in February, 2013.

The deadline for public comments is Nov. 7 and a decision from the Ministry of Environment and Conservation is due Nov. 14.
