Environmental assessment underway for Newfoundland hiking trail construction

The Newfoundland and Labrador Ministry of Environment and Conservation announced Monday that the East Coast Trail Association has submitted a proposal to develop a 13-kilometre hiking trail.

The trail would go from Bauline to Portugal Cove, about 15 kilometres northwest of St. John’s.

If approved, the work would begin in early 2012 and would include construction of boardwalks, crib steps, retaining walls, signage, stairs and bridges.
