Kingston, Ontario to award projects helping disabled people

The city of Kingston, Ontario is accepting nominations for the International Day of Persons with Disabilities Access Award, which recognizes contributions that improve access beyond legislated requirements for persons with disabilities. New or renovated buildings are eligible.

Any individual, team, company or organization living or working in Kingston or involved in a project which directly benefits the citizens of Kingston can be eligible. The projects must have been developed within the past three years.

In partnership with the Municipal Accessibility Advisory Committee (MAAC), the city will present the awards in a ceremony November 3, which is the International Day of Persons with Disabilities.

The forms must be submitted to the Accessibility Office, Attention: International Day of Persons with Disabilities Access Award, City Hall, 216 Ontario Street, Kingston, Ontario, K7L 2Z3 no later than 4:00 p.m. on October 31.

In addition to building projects, contributions could include employment programs, transportation systems or recreational programs.

A selection committee including the Chair of MAAC and members from its Built Environment, Information/Communication/Employment and Transportation working groups will chose a winner.
