Firebox Energy to build biomass power generation plant near Glenevis, Alberta
FireBox Energy Systems Ltd. of Calgary announced Friday night it plans to build a $60 million electrical power generation facility for the purpose of demonstration using biomass on the Alexis Nakota Sioux Nation Reserve near Glenevis, Alberta.
The John W. Murray Biomass plant will generate about 30 megawatts of electricity. Construction is expected to begin in early 2012 and is expected to take 13 months.
Once the project has been successfully completed and commissioned, FireBox said the firm and its partners will proceed to develop a larger, 270 MW biomass plant on the same land.
Using a technology called AirBoiler, Firebox says it can produce electricity from combustible materials such as feedstock without the need for water.
