The City of Niagara Falls, Ontario announced Monday that construction is nearly complete on the Niagara Falls History Museum.

Located near Drummond Hill Cemetery, the focal point for the Battle of Lundy’s Lane in the War of 1812, the Niagara Falls History Museum is undergoing a $12-million renovation project.

The renovation and expansion was designed by Moriyama and Teshima of Toronto.

The project includes upgrading the existing building to current standards of accessibility and display and creating a Visitor Centre for the War of 1812 and the Battle of Lundy's Lane.

“The exterior and construction of the buildings is nearly complete,” the city stated in a press release.

The museum was designated as a Historic Building under the provisions of the Ontario Heritage Act. The Museum is owned by the City of Niagara Falls and operated by the City of Niagara Falls Board of Museums.

Both the Ontario and federal governments have contributed $3.238 million each to the project to support the first phase of the Museums War of 1812 Legacy Project

The City of Niagara Falls will contribute the balance of the total eligible project cost.
