Halton Region, Ontario speeds up roadwork
The Regional Council for Halton, Ontario voted this week in favour of accelerating the schedule of six road work projects west of Toronto by up to eight years.
Halton Region is the upper tier of municipal government for the towns of Milton, Halton Hills and Oakville and the city of Burlington.
In September, regional engineers wrote a report for the regional council planning and public works committee, dubbed Update: Accelerated Transportation Capital Program and Strategy for Mitigation of Construction Impact .
On November 9, the committee recommended that full council endorse the implementation of the initiatives set out in that report. Full council approved them November 16. The report recommended:
• Construction on Tremaine Road (Regional Road 22) from Main Street to Highway 401, which is in the design phase and includes a grade separation at a Canadian Pacific rail crossing and bridge over 16 Mile Creek, be accelerated by five years from 2018 to 2013;
• Construction on Tremaine Road from Derry Road (Regional Road 7) to Britannia Road (Regional Road 6), under environmental assessment, be accelerated by eight years from 2021 to 2013;
• Construction on Britannia Road from Tremaine Road to Ninth Line, under environmental assessment, be accelerated by five years from 2018 to 2013;
• Construction on Dundas Street (formerly Ontario Highway 5 and now Halton Region Road 5) from Bronte Road (formerly Highway 25) to Proudfoot Trail, under environmental assessment, be accelerated by four years from 2016 to 2012;
• Construction on Neyagawa Boulevard from Dundas Street to Highway 407 be accelerated by nine years from 2021 to 2012; and
• Construction on Regional Road 25 (formerly Ontario Highway 25) from Highway 407 to Britannia Road be accelerated by two years from 2013 to 2011.
