Windsor, Ontario women’s construction group gets ‘overwhelming’ response to Christmas charity drive

WINDSOR, Ont.

The Windsor, Ontario women in construction group has launched a Christmas-season charity drive, collecting cash, clothing, baby products and other items on behalf of Hiatus House, a local women’s shelter.

“The response has been overwhelming,” said Christine Prymack, office administrator at the Windsor Construction Association.

Some firms have set up donation bins in their offices, while others are contributing cash. A local safety supply company has donated boxes of toilet paper and tissues; another firm provided 10 pairs of children’s’ pajamas.

“We will probably have two to three van-loads of goods to deliver,” Prymack said.

The cutoff date for donations is Dec. 9. Items will be delivered the following week.

The group, which was established in April, now has more than 50 members representing a broad cross-section of the local industry, including contracting, architecture and engineering firms as well as suppliers.

It was established in April with the blessing of the boards of the Windsor Construction Association and sister Heavy Construction Association.
