Emera Utility Services acquires Green’s construction business

Emera Utility Services Inc. of Halifax announced Monday it has acquired part of Green’s Service Station Ltd. of Goobies, Newfoundland.

The subsidiary of Emera Inc. acquired Green’s utility line and communications construction, installation and maintenance business.

The news comes within days of Emera’s announcement that it registered the Maritime Link project with the Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency and the Newfoundland and Labrador environment and conservation department . The Maritime Link, if approved, would include a power line from Newfoundland to Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia.

Emera will take on about 80 full and part-time employees from Green's, including founder and former president Vernon Smith.
