Fredericton, New Brunswick airport completes runway construction

Transport Canada announced Tuesday that the federal and provincial governments “marked the reopening” of a runway at Fredericton International Airport in New Brunswick, which was closed for construction from June through October.

Runway 15-33 (which is aligned to the north-northwest and south-southeast so airplanes can takeoff and land travelling at either 150 or 330 degrees from north) was repaired over the summer. The project was completed at less than the budgeted cost of $10.4 million, the federal government stated in a press release.

Funding was provided by Ottawa through the Gateways and Border Crossings fund. The province and the Fredericton International Airport Authority (FIAA) also shared the cost.

The project included renewing the runway surface, approach lighting, edge lighting and drainage, as well as maintaining and upgrading the taxiways related to this runway. The runway “officially reopened” on October 31.
