Haldimand, Ontario county council approves $21.56-million 2012 capital budget
The Haldimand County Council, which administers an area south of Hamilton, Ontario, this week approved capital expenditures in 2012 of $21.56 million, including the start of construction of fire hall and ambulance facilities in 2013.
On Monday, council voted in favour of motions passed by the Committee of The Whole, including $159 million in projects to be initiated over the next 10 years.
Monday's vote was on the tax-supported budget. A separate rate-supported budget for water and wastewater capital projects will be presented in January.
On Dec. 19, a majority of members of the full council approved a Committee of the Whole motion on Dec. 13 to have five construction projects moved from 2014 to 2013. Those projects are the Cayuga fire hall (estimated at $1.33 million), Cayuga Land Ambulance base (estimated at $760,000) and Cayuga Library (estimated at $1 million), plus a new fire hall and emergency medical services (EMS) base in Hagersville.
In addition to Cayuga and Hagersville, Haldimand County includes the communities of Nanticoke, Caledonia, Jarvis and Dunnville. The county plans to undertake $13 million in roadwork in 2012, plus $1.1 million worth of improvements to parks, arenas, pools, cemeteries and libraries.
