Nova Scotia to spend $610 million on capital projects, including schools and roads

HALIFAX

Nova Scotia's capital budget for fiscal 2012-13 will include $610 million for new schools, hospital renovations and highway work.

The figure is higher than the $460 million projected in last spring's budget.

Finance Minister Graham Steele says the government has decided to respond to the stalled international economic recovery.

Steele says government restraint measures have enabled his department to put more money into capital programs.

The plan includes $281 million for highways, $158 million for building projects and $57.2 million for information technology projects.

Steele says the plan will create employment equal to 4,500 full-time jobs.
