IBEW ratifies contract with Nav Canada; two year pact increases wages

OTTAWA

Members of the union representing almost 700 technicians at Nav Canada have ratified a collective agreement with the operator of Canada's civil air navigation services.

The pact, covering 680 members of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers, runs until Dec. 31, 2013. It calls for wage increases of three per cent this coming Jan. 1 and again on Jan. 1, 2013.

Members of the union are air navigation service technologists responsible for the planning, installation and proof of performance on various electronic systems and equipment.

Among other things, they maintain air traffic management and communication systems, navigational aids and surveillance systems.

Nav Canada provides air traffic control, flight information, weather briefings, aeronautical information services, airport advisory services and electronic aids to navigation.
