CVTech lands Hydro Quebec construction contracts

Le Groupe CVTech Inc. of Drummondville, Quebec announced Monday it has been awarded more than $38 million worth of contracts, including a $6.8-million electrical transmission line construction project with Hydro-Quebec.

The firm stated that its subsidiary Thirau ltee got a contract from Hydro-Quebec for the construction of a 37-kilometre, 120-kilovolt transmission line connecting a wind farm at Saint-Robert-Bellarmin, in the Megantic region, to the Bolduc substation at Saint-Martin, in the Beauce region.

Thirau is a general contracting firm specializing in the construction and maintenance of electrical power houses and substations as well as transmission and distribution lines.

The Hydro-Quebec work is scheduled to begin in January 2012 and should be completed four months later.

Hydro-Quebec also awarded two separate contracts to another CVTech subsidiary, J.J.L. Deboisement Inc. for the control of vegetation on rights-of-way of distribution lines. The contracts, with a total value of about $10 million, cover territories in Montreal-West, Montreal-East and the l'Assomption region.

“Work is expected to begin in January 2012 and to continue for two years,” CVTech stated.

Another CVTech subsidiary, Cherry Hill, New Jersey-based Riggs Distler & Company, has been awarded a US$9.5-million contract for the installation of two rapid-start coal-fired boilers at Veolia Energy North America's Grays Ferry power plant in Philadelphia.

Riggs Distler provides maintenance and construction services to the utility and heavy industrial markets.

The Veolia Energy project is scheduled for the first six months of this year.

Riggs Distler was awarded two other contracts. One is a US$8-million engineering procurement and construction project involving the installation of a solar photovoltaic ground-mounted system in New Jersey. The other, valued at “up to US$4 million,” is for the design and installation of hydro poles in New Jersey.

Last August, CVTech announced Riggs Distler was awarded a total of US$24 million worth of electrical and mechanical contracts in the eastern United States. The work includes installing electric feeders and instrumentation for the Philadelphia Water Department and replacing a coal-fed boiler wall at a power plant.
