American Auto Matrix settles patent lawsuit with TSI over building automation, fume hood controls

American Auto-Matrix (AAM) of Export, Pennsylvania announced Monday it has resolved a patent infringement lawsuit it launched against TSI Inc. over a system to control laboratories with fume hoods.

AAM, which is owned by Jordan Acquisition Group LLC, said TSI has been granted a non-exclusive license to its patent, which extends to its distribution chain and customers. The firms signed a settlement agreement Dec. 28, which AAM described as “an amicable and mutually beneficial settlement.”

“This patent broadly covers systems and methods where laboratory and fume hood controls are integrated with Building Automation networks,” AAM stated in a press release, referring to U.S. Patent Number 5,764,579.

The lawsuit had been pending in U.S. federal court since May, 2010, AAM said.

AAM’s products include HVAC, access, lighting, light process and laboratory and fume hood control.

TSI, which is based in Shoreview, Minnesota, northeast of Minneapolis, makes fume hood monitors and controls. It also makes measurement tools including air quality monitors, ventilation test instruments, airflow instruments, indoor air quality meters.
