Ottawa, New Brunswick to fund well construction in Baker-Brook

The New Brunswick government announced Monday that the Village of Baker-Brook will get $1.5 million in funding for well construction and equipment for its water system.

Baker-Brook, which is about 20 kilometres west of Edmunston on the Saint John River, has had a boil-water advisory in effect since Jan. 3.

A new project includes reconstructing two existing wells and building a third well. The wells will have submersible pumps and will be connected to the current system.

The federal and provincial governments will contribute $510,135 each to the project while the Village of Baker-Brook will contribute $510,137.

The funding is contingent upon an environmental assessment and the completion of all contractual agreements.
