VIDEO: The Vancouver Regional Construction Association's U35 initiative
Construction industry experts have long warned of an "experience gap" between senior management and young workers just entering the sector. Due to the bottoming out of the industry in the 1990s, the industry has lacked a core group of younger managers and executives to take over once the baby boomer generation retires.
But several organizations are taking proactive measures to ensure the industry is in good hands in the coming decades. The Vancouver Regional Construction Association has introduced U35, a networking organization for younger construction executives to meet, connect, and gain from the mentoring available to them by senior executives.
U35 also performs community outreach, such as members painting social housing Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside and raising money for charity.
