St. Catharines, Ontario aims for LEED silver with parking garage

The City of St. Catharines, Ontario officially opened the new Carlisle Street Parking garage Friday, which was constructed over two years at a cost of $27.9 million.

In a press release, the city stated the garage “will be certified” to the silver standard under Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED). Features include bike racks, greywater collection, LED lights and parking for hybrid vehicles.

The cost of construction was shared by the federal and provincial governments as well as the city.

According to Reed Construction Data Canada building reports, the general contractor for the parking garage at 71 Carlisle Street was Bondfield Construction Co. Ltd., with Halsall Associations Ltd. as the prime consultant.
