Montreal firms submit proposals for fire station redevelopment

The Town of Hampstead, Quebec announced this week that Crofton Moore Developments Inc. and DevMcGill, both based in Montreal, have submitted proposals for the redevelopment of the property containing the former MacDonald Fire Station.

Last year, the town council concluded that the best option was to rezone the site for a 16-storey condominium building. It plans to use proceeds from the sale of the fire station for a three-year capital works program that includes $4 million on road rehabilitation.

Mayor Bill Steinberg is trying to increase property tax revenues by redeveloping properties including the MacDonald Fire Station.

Hampstead is nearly surrounded by the City of Montreal but is not one of its 19 boroughs, or arrondissements.

The town has struck a special committee to evaluate proposals to redevelop the fire station.

In November, the town called for proposals from pre-qualified bidders in a bidding system managed by the Province of Quebec. The deadline for submissions was Jan. 31.

Although the identities of the bidders were confidential before the deadline passed, the town has now released their identities.

Crofton and DevMcGill were the only to firms to submit proposals, the town stated. The other pre-qualified bidders, all of whom are based in Montreal, were Canderel, Groupe d’investissement Luger and Kodem.
