Don Smith Commercial Building Awards recognize innovation in and near London, Ontario
The winners of the Don Smith Commercial Building Awards, named after EllisDon Corp.’s co-founder, were announced Tuesday night in London, Ontario.
For commercial heritage renovation, the Canada Southern Railway Station in St. Thomas, south of London, received a commercial building achievement award.
The awards were established by the Regional Commercial Council of the London and St. Thomas Association of Realtors.
Other commercial award winners were the Middlesex Centre Regional Medical Clinic in Ilderton for commercial new build and the Westmount Shopping Plaza at Wonderland Road south of Commissioners Road for commercial repurpose.
Two buildings were recognized in the industrial building category. London Machinery at 15790 Robins Hill Road (just west of London International Airport) won the award for commercial free stand, while a nearby building housing German Solar and Kaco New Energy got the commercial multi tenant award.
The Stoneycreek Community Centre at 920 Sunningdale Road east of Adelaide Street was recognized in the institutional building achievement category while the Parc Centre Project, on Sugarcreek Trail west of Mount Pleasant Cemetery, was recognized in the multi-family building achievement category.
The awards were sponsored by D&H, CBRE, Toronto Dominion Commercial Banking and Honeywell Building Solutions.
The judges included: Western University geography professor emeritus Bill Code; Ken Owen, manager of facilities and design for the City of London; Joe Ruscitti, editor-in-chief of the London Free Press newspaper; Peter Whatmore, CBRE’s executive managing director for southwestern Ontario; and Peter White, president and chief executive officer of London Economic Development Corp.
