Roofing manufacturer fined $60,000 following a work accident
A Calgary-based roofing company has been fined $60,000 for violating the Occupational Health and Safety act after one of its employees was injured.
An IKO Industries Ltd. employee suffered third degree burns after trying to fix a problem at the company’s Brampton facility.
The worker encountered an issue on one of the production lines that produced asphalt shingles.
The worker put their glove-covered hand on a sheet of asphalt that was being processed, but the hand was pulled into the roller and made contact with a pot of tar.
The company pleaded guilty for not installing a guard or safety device on the rollers.
They were also fined with a 25 per victim subcharge, as required by the Provincial Offences Act.
