Waste Management and Cayne's Housewares to promote recycling of kitchen appliances

Event to kick off National Waste Reduction Week

TORONTO, Oct. 16 /CNW/ - To kick off National Waste Reduction Week, Waste Management is teaming up with Cayne's Housewares Store to promote the recycling of small kitchen appliances. This weekend only - October 16 to 18 - anyone who brings in a small kitchen electrical appliance to their store will receive numerous instant rebates as well as a $30 instant rebate on the purchase of a new Kitchen Aid appliance.

"Small appliances such as old coffee makers, toasters and blenders sometimes can end up in a landfill, which is unfortunate because they can, and should, be properly recycled," said Donald McPherson, Store Manager for Cayne's Housewares. "This is an excellent opportunity for people to clean out their garages and basements, while ensuring that their old items are disposed of in a safe, environmentally friendly manner."

Cayne's Housewares will have a recycling center at its store at 112 Doncaster Avenue, Thornhill. Microwaves, computers and televisions will not be accepted. Waste Management will deliver all the used appliances to its recycling depot.

"Waste Management is the largest residential recycler in North America and is dedicated to making recycling more accessible for consumers across the country," added Brad Legein, Territory Manager for Waste Management. "One of our sustainability goals is to triple the amount of recyclables we process from nearly eight million to 20 million tons by 2020 with the support of companies like Cayne's."
