Under proposed Ontario legislation, workers certified anywhere in Canada would be eligible for the same certification in Ontario without additional training or testing.
Is increased worker mobility a threat to trades-qualification standards?

1. May 26, 2009 — Personally, I feel we should all be unionized and ticketed in our trades. Through Trade Unions we can travel. Why not go where you want to work, get all-round experience in your trade and see the country while making new friends?
I’m not keen on the amount of foreign workers being brought into the country on work visas at various places. In Fort McMurray there are plenty of temporary foreign workers on job sites. The companies that bring such people in, in my opinion, do not treat the workers with any respect. They take advantage of these guys, in the hours they work and the money they receive. I’m not keen on companies bringing in foreign workers, suggesting they can’t find tradesmen here. The problem is they won’t hire from the union halls. These tradesmen are blacklisted because they are unionized and have certain rules and regulations that must be followed. Some companies just don’t want to follow those rules. They want to smile and have complete control over their workforce to do whatever they like. Respond to this comment
