Pennecon registers proposed quarry near Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador for environmental assessment

The Newfoundland and Labrador government announced last week that Pennecon Ltd. has registered a proposed sand and gravel quarry near Happy Valley-Goose Bay, Labrador for environmental assessment.

The department of environment and conservation stated the Goose Bay Sand and Gravel Quarry would be 20 kilometres southwest of Happy Valley-Goose Bay, and include an 800-metre access road. The project is scheduled to begin in May, 2012, the deadline for public comments is Feb. 23 and the minister’s decision is due March 3.

In its environmental assessment bulletin, the province stated that aggregate material would be excavated, crushed, washed and screened at the site.
